Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work with my printer?
It works with printers that support AirPrint, Apple’s way of printing from iPhone and iPad. Your printer and your iPhone or iPad must be on the same Wi-Fi. A new printer must first be set up on your Wi-Fi with its maker’s instructions; this app can’t do that part. To be sure, tap Print a Free Test Page: if a page comes out, you’re ready.
How do I connect my printer to a new Wi-Fi?
A new router, a new internet provider or a move usually means a new Wi-Fi name and password, and your printer keeps looking for the old one. The new details are entered on the printer itself, or in the free app from the company that made it. This app can’t do that part, but once the printer is on the new Wi-Fi, the app finds it.
1. On the printer’s screen, open its Wi-Fi or Wireless settings (often called Wireless Setup Wizard).
2. Choose your new network and type its password. The network name and password are usually on a sticker on the router. If your network shows two names, choose the one without 5G in it.
3. Connect your iPhone or iPad to the same Wi-Fi, open this app and tap Print a Free Test Page. If a page comes out, you’re ready.
No screen on your printer, or it won’t connect? Follow its maker’s instructions, or email us its brand and model (usually on the front or top) and we’ll send you the steps.
How do I print a document?
Tap Print a Document and pick a PDF or a text file from Files. Every page shows on the screen. Tap Print, choose your printer, then tap Print again. If a page is bigger than your paper, you choose: shrink it to fit, or keep its actual size, with the edges cut off.
How do I print photos?
Tap Print Photos and pick one or more photos. Choose a size — 4 × 6, 5 × 7, 3.5 × 5 or 2 × 3 in, wallet, 10 × 15 cm, or Other Size for your own — then the number of copies and the paper in your printer: Letter, A4 or 4 × 6 in photo paper. Tap Print; the first time, choose your printer. When they fit, several photos go on one sheet. To try a size first, tap Print a Free Test Photo.
How do I choose the part of a photo that prints?
In the list of photos, tap the crop button next to a photo. Drag to move it, and pinch or tap Zoom In and Zoom Out to change how much shows. The dimmed parts won’t print. Tap the check mark to keep your choice.
How do I print an attachment from Mail, or a file from another app?
Open the PDF or photo, tap Share, then tap Printer — that is this app’s name on your Home Screen. If Printer isn’t in the list, tap Save to Files, then open this app and tap Print a Document.
Can I print Word, Excel or PowerPoint files?
For a print that looks like the original, print them from the app that made them — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, Numbers or Keynote — or save them as PDF and print the PDF here. This app can open them from Print a Document, but it prints a copy made on your device that can look different, and it tells you so before you print.
My printer isn’t in the list
Check these, in order: Is the printer on? A sleeping printer can take a minute to wake up. Is your iPhone or iPad on the same Wi-Fi as the printer — not a guest network (a second Wi-Fi some routers offer to visitors)? Turn the printer off and on, wait a minute, then look again. The same steps are in Printer Help in the app.
New router or internet provider? Your printer has to join the new Wi-Fi first. Here’s how.
It says Sent to your printer, but nothing came out
Sent to your printer means your iPhone or iPad handed the job to the printer; the app can’t see the paper. Check the printer’s screen or lights for paper, ink or a paper jam. Then tap Nothing came out? under that message: the app walks you through the checks and can send the same job again.
What is free, and what needs a subscription?
The test page and the test photo are free for everyone. Printing your own documents and photos needs Unlimited Printing, a subscription offered weekly, monthly or yearly. When you tap Print, the app first checks that your printer answers, then shows the plans and their prices. The Terms of Use have the details.
How do I cancel my subscription?
In the app, tap Your Plan, then Cancel or Change Plan. Or open the Settings app, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before your plan renews — or before your free trial ends — to avoid the next charge. You can keep printing until the end of the period you paid for.
I paid in an earlier version. Do I have to pay again?
No. If you bought the one-time Unlimited Printing purchase in an earlier version, it still works. If Your Plan says Not subscribed, tap Restore Purchases there, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, and choose Request a refund.
Does the app need access to my photos, files or network?
No. You pick the photos and files you want in Apple’s pickers, and the app sees only those. It prints through Apple’s own printing system and asks for no permissions.
